A TikTok Pixel is a piece of code that you place on your website or on your Playable campaign.
You can use TikTok Pixel's to track users as they interact with your Playable campaign. This will help measuring the effectiveness of your campaigns and creating custom audiences for retargeting purposes.
To comply with TikTok's terms (and, in some cases, the law), you need to make sure visitors know you’re collecting their data.
This means you need to provide clear notice that you’re using the TikTok Pixel and that visitors' information may be collected through cookies or other methods. You also need to let visitors know how they can opt out of having their data collected.
To know more about how to add cookies to your campaign, read this article.
Note: Unlike with Meta Pixel tracking, which supports adding the pixel both globally and on individual campaigns, TikTok Pixel tracking is only supported on individual campaigns.
Adding TikTok Pixel to your campaign
1. Add Pixel integration:
First, you need to add the Pixel Tracking integration to your campaign. This can be done by going to Integrations > Add integration > Statistics > Pixel tracking, and select TikTok Pixel ID as your tracking type.
2. Choose an event trigger to select when the pixel should fire
You can choose between the following two events:
Page load: Fires once when the campaign loads in the browser. This is useful for tracking overall campaign reach.
Flow page opened: Fires each time a user navigates to a specific page within the gameflow. This is useful for more specific interaction and funnel tracking (e.g. tracking who reached the winner page or who signed up using the registration form).
Important: When choosing which flow page triggers the pixel, always select the page that comes after the action you want to track. For example, to track who won the game, set the pixel on the winner page.
3. Insert your TikTok Pixel ID
Enter your TikTok Pixel ID in the tracking ID field. For more information about how to create or find your TikTok Pixel ID, you can check out TikTok's documentation.
4. Select an event type:
You can choose from the following standard TikTok event types:
PageView
ClickButton
CompleteRegistration
InitiateCheckout
SubmitForm
Subscribe
Note: Custom event names are not currently supported for TikTok Pixel — only the six event types listed above are available. These events are based on the standard events supported by TikTok
Troubleshooting
In order to test that the pixel is firing as intended, you can download and use the official TikTok Pixel Helper extension for Google Chrome. This way, you can quickly tell if there is an issue with the pixel itself.
