Creating a Playable ad campaign

Ad compatible game types

For now, it is possible to choose from 9 different game types when creating an Ad campaign:

  • Quiz

  • Scratchcard

  • Wheel of fortune

  • Spin the bottle

  • Shoot it

  • Drop game

  • Memory game

  • Poll

  • Slice it

Choosing an ad format

When creating a campaign, you can select from two ad formats:

  1. Fixed banner format

  2. Responsive banner format

Note! It is not possible to generate fixed banners in combination with responsive banners! The two banner types require completely different configurations and it is therefore not possible to configure both types within the same campaign.

Fixed banner format

In Playable, when you create a fixed banner campaign, the editor will display the campaign in the exact sizes you selected. This means you can directly visualize how the ad will appear in each specific format.

For fixed formats, you can choose from the following sizes:

  • 300x250

  • 300x600

  • 320x320

  • 320x400

  • 930x600

Because each size has its own layout constraints, you will need to adjust the content—such as images, text, and gameplay elements—to ensure it fits well and delivers the intended experience within the available space.

In the campaign creation process, you can select several formats if you want to configure several formats in the same Playable campaign. This may be relevant in situations where centralized prize or registration management is required. However, for optimal control over the creative design and ad performance, we recommend creating separate campaigns for each banner size.

Considerations around configuring multiple ad sizes within the same campaign

If you're configuring multiple ad sizes within the same campaign, please note that it’s currently not possible to adjust individual content elements—such as headlines, images, or buttons—to fit each specific ad size. While the game elements will automatically scale to the available space, you won’t be able to customize content for different formats.

This means you need to design your campaign to be compatible across all ad sizes and devices. Alternatively, you can create separate campaigns for each banner size to ensure optimal content adjustment for each format.

Responsive banner format

When selecting the responsive banner format, you can choose between optimizing for top-scroll or mid-scroll placements.

In Playable, when you build a responsive banner campaign, the editor will display the campaign in full screen, similar to how regular Playable campaigns are built. Be aware, that safe zones and exclusion zones are not outlined in the platform, so you need to keep them in mind when optimizing your design.

Downloading a Playable ads campaign

Custom domain required

To publish a Playable ad, you need to set up and connect the campaign to a custom domain. Running the ad on your custom subdomain will help prevent your ads from being blocked by ad-blockers, which can occur if the ad is hosted on a shared or default domain.

You cannot publish or download an ad campaign without associating it with a custom domain!

Security headers and restrictions on frame ancestors

Playable ads rely on iframes, but by default, ad campaigns do not respect global frame-ancestors settings. This means that any frame ancestors rules set at the account level are not applied to individual ad campaigns.

This default setting ensures that campaigns can be embedded across multiple websites, allowing for broader ad distribution without restrictions.

Ad networks

Our platform generates HTML5 ads that rely on the use of iframes to deliver interactive content. We currently support ad networks that allow the use of iframe-based HTML5 files for serving ads.

For our STANDARD/FIXED ad formats, we support the following networks:

  • Adnami

  • Adform

  • Google Ad Manager

  • DV360 (Google Display & Video 360)

For RESPONSIVE ad banners, we support:

  • Adnami

Adnami specializes in responsive banners but also supports import and embedding of standard banner sizes.

Please note that some ad networks, such as Google Ad Manager (GAM), impose restrictions on external references and do not allow iframe-based content in HTML5 ads. As a result, our ads may not be compatible with networks that enforce these limitations.

We recommend checking with your ad network to ensure they support HTML5 ads with iframes before configuring your campaign. For networks like Adnami, Adform, and other compatible platforms, you can seamlessly use our HTML5 ad files.

CPM pricing and calculator

In the Publishing tab, you will find a CPM calculator where you can enter your estimated impressions. The total price is calculated based on the campaign size and traffic usage.

Cookies on ads

Playable ads are configured to never set cookies on a campaign. The platform implements a strict cookie wait feature to ensure compliance and to avoids potential issues with ad networks blocking campaigns due to cookie policies.

Ads generally avoid setting cookies due to strict privacy regulations like GDPR, third-party cookie restrictions in browsers (Safari, Firefox, and soon Chrome), and the risk of being blocked by ad blockers. To ensure compliance, wider visibility, and a smoother user experience, we recommend avoiding setting any cookies on Playable ad campaigns for these reasons.

Click tag

When building an ad in Playable, you can enable ClickTAG as an action on various elements, such as buttons or columns. This adds a click layer to the selected element, ensuring that clicks are properly tracked by the ad network.

For gamified ads, the ClickTAG would typically be placed on the final page of the flow (e.g., after the game is completed). The ad network will define the final click URL, directing users to a destination when they interact with the tagged area or element.

We do not offer any analytical metrics on click tags in the platform. The click URL is defined in the ad network, and therefore we are not able to provide detailed analytics on click tag URL’s, as we normally can with external URL tracking.

Disabling automatic click tag functionality in ad network

If you have added a click tag action within the Playable campaign, it is important to DISABLE automatic click tag in the ad network. This automatically adds a click layer on top of your creative; meaning clicking anywhere on the banner will activate the click tag. If you have added click tag to a specific element in your campaign, automatic click tag will overwrite this action.

Importing Playable ads into supported networks

Once you have created and downloaded the Playable ad creative, you must import it to your ad network.

Ads are usually imported 1 ad file at a time, so if you have downloaded several ad formats at the same time, you need to unzip the main zip file and upload each ad format individually.

Tracking and analytics

Session tracking

The analytics for Playable ads closely mirror the tracking available for standard Playable campaigns, with one key difference: session tracking begins later in the ad flow to better reflect user engagement.

In a traditional Playable campaign, sessions are tracked from the first page. However, for Playable ads, the first page view in the ad is treated as an impression. An impression is simply a display of the ad and doesn’t necessarily indicate that the user has interacted with it.

Therefore, session tracking only starts on the second page of the ad flow and as a result, the funnel statistics in the platform will show N/A for sessions on the first page.
