Multiple uses of the calendar

Using a digital Calendar game where customers scratch a field each day or hour can be a fun and engaging way to interact with your customers. Our Calendar game is almost always used for Christmas advent calendar purposes, but the game type can also serve as a great way to drive engagement with your audience on many other occasions as well, for example:

  • Halloween

  • Black Friday

  • Black Week

  • Back-to-school

  • Easter

  • Summer vacation

  • Company days

  • Sports events

  • Valentine’s day

  • Etc.

The above image provides a great example of how the Calendar game can be styled and personalized for different occasions. Our customer Martinex used our calendar during November leading up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The Calendar game offers versatile options for creating a sense of anticipation and excitement, encouraging your audience to return regularly to participate. Within the game settings you can:

  • Set the duration of the calendar

  • Decide how many fields should be included

  • Choose the dates where the fields should become active

  • Select whether you want to display 1 field each day or display all fields in the layout

In the above image you can see an example of a one-door calendar. Rather than seeing 10 or 25 fields, only one door is displayed and accessible each day.

Different Calendar game experiences

Behind each calendar door you can create many different game experiences. You can for example use the built-in quiz function, share discount codes, or other types of rewards with participants. You can also direct participants to either another game built in the platform, such as a Wheel of fortune or a Drop game, or to a separate landing page. In the following, we’ll introduce some of the different game experiences that can be created using the Calendar game on our platform.

Daily locks

You can set up a Calendar game where customers can access one field per day, revealing a reward, prize, daily quiz question, or a new game experience. Rewards can range from non-monetary prizes to small discounts or even chances to win bigger prizes. This type of calendar setup is typically used in December, but it can be used also for purposes like Black Week, Halloween, Back To School periods, or sports events like Tour de France, Olympics, and many other seasonal purposes or events.

Here you can see an example of what a calendar with 12 daily locks could look like.

Weekly locks

Instead of daily rewards, you can also have weekly calendar experiences where participants come back each week to engage with your brand. Offering weekly promotions or deals can be a great way to keep customers engaged and coming back regularly. Each week, customers can participate in the calendar experience to reveal a unique discount or special offer. The weekly calendar experience can also be great for setting up weekly challenges and providing your audience with motivation to complete new challenges each week, which could result in a reward by the end of the campaign period. Calendars with weekly locks work well during Christmas, as a 4-lock Christmas Advent Calendar. It is also an ideal option for Summer campaigns, where participants can access a lock each week of the summer holiday season.

Limited-time offers and hourly locks

Hourly surprises, special discounts, and rewards are often associated with events like Black Friday or Valentine’s Day. With the Calendar game, it is possible to create an experience where participants scratch off a field or open a calendar door and get access to exclusive messages or offers within a specified time frame e.g., one hour. Promoting limited-time offers can be a highly effective marketing strategy for driving urgency and boosting sales. There are however some limitations to the hourly calendar approach. Product teasers and sneak peeks

If you're planning to launch a new product, the Calendar game can also be used to tease upcoming features or product updates up to the launch date. Each day or week, customers can scratch or open a calendar door to reveal a hint or a sneak peek of what's coming. This builds excitement and curiosity around your product, encouraging users to keep coming back to discover more.

Tips for building a calendar campaign

1. Send out a pre-sign-up campaign

Having a pre-sign-up campaign can serve as a strategic approach to engage your audience prior to the calendar going live. It will pique the interest of your target audience, and can also help you build an email list of interested prospects. Then, you can also set up regular reminders for participants who registered. You can use our Landing Page campaign to grow your email list prior to launch. This campaign type serves the primary purpose of collecting emails and can for example be iframed or added to a pop-up on your website.

2. Keep it simple!

While the Calendar game offers many possibilities, we suggest that you try to strike a balance between creativity and simplicity. By minimizing the complexity of the setup you can ensure a clean and straightforward campaign flow! For example, while having different games every day from December 1st to Christmas might seem like a good idea, it will also be very complex and time-consuming, hence increasing the need for extremely good results if you want to have a great ROI.

3. Consider data enrichment

When setting up your calendar, keep in mind our data enrichment best practices. How should you gate your calendar? How many fields should you include in the registration form? Asking yourself these questions is primordial for success.
