Using discount codes as prizes on your campaigns can serve as a good strategy for driving sales. The approach not only captivates your audience but also incentivizes them to make purchases in physical or online stores.

In this article, we will:

  • Explore how you can effectively utilize discount codes as prizes in your Playable campaigns to boost sales

  • Provide you with practical guidance on how to set up discount codes as prizes in the platform.

How to effectively use discount codes as prizes

Discount codes are a versatile tool in your marketing arsenal. Discount codes transcend industry boundaries, making them suitable for a wide range of businesses. Furthermore, the versatility of discount codes allows for tailored experiences across various games and promotions. They can be seamlessly integrated into a variety of game mechanics and can also be customized to align with seasonal campaigns, holidays, or thematic events. Below we will share different approaches to realize the benefits of using discount codes as prizes in your Playable game.

Offering discount codes as prizes in luck and skill games

In luck-based games, like spin-the-wheel or scratch-off cards, players enjoy the thrill of chance, making it a fun way to win discounts. Players often return for another spin or scratch, hoping to score an even better discount. Skill-based games, such as a drop game or a puzzle-solving challenge, offer a different way of engaging your audience and rewarding players for their abilities.

Sculpted by Aimee, a well-known Irish makeup brand, ran an effective drop game, challenging players to earn 150 points in 30 seconds for a chance to win discounts and enter a £200 prize draw. Besides the main prize, all players received either a 15% discount or free shipping. On the winner page, participants were encouraged to "Shop bestsellers," driving traffic to the website and translating engagement into sales.

Offering personalized discount codes based on game interaction

Another strategy to consider is personalizing discount codes based on player interactions. In the platform, you can utilize game data to tailor prizes and discount codes to the preferences of a player. Knowledge games like Swipe It or a personality test are both well-suited game types for taking a personalized approach to distributing discount codes. These game types allow you to analyze the preferences of your audience and provide personalized product recommendations alongside discount codes, which can increase the likelihood of conversion.

To give you an example of such an approach, Kämp Collection Hotels, a renowned hotel group in Finland, introduced a 'See which hotel matches your personality!' personality test. The test assisted participants in identifying the hotel that most closely aligned with their preferences. After completing the test, received an exclusive offer tailored to their individual personality profile.

The previous sections have provided some conceptual inspiration on how to use discount codes to drive sales. The following sections will provide practical examples of how to implement these strategies in the platform.

Distributing discount codes as bulk prize codes

Bulk prizes come in handy when you have a more significant amount of the same prize to distribute - like for example a discount code!

Bulk prizes can be used on both skill, luck, and knowledge games. The prize settings can vary from one game to another. In our help center collection, you will find everything you need to know about different types of bulk prizes and how to set them up.

How to share discount codes with participants

When setting up a bulk prize you can choose to import your own, custom prize codes or have the platform generate the codes for you. These options are ideal if you want to offer players unique prize codes. You can also offer customers a generic prize code. This option works well if you are offering an unlimited prize.

Regardless of what type of discount codes you are distributing, you have several options for sharing the code with participants who win a prize. In the following sections, we will take you through some examples of how you can share a discount code with players.

Share discount codes on the winner page

You can share a prize code on the winner page by using replacement tags. This option works well if you are distributing generic discount codes to your customers. In the example below, you can see an example of a generic code that has been added to an unlimited, 100% distribution prize:

When playing the game, the prize code will display on the winner page like this:

Note! If you are using unique prize codes, we do not recommend using the #bulk_prize_code# replacement tag on the winner page but advise that you insert it in the winner email.

Copy-to-clipboard

If you want to make it easy for players to copy and use your discount codes, you can use the ‘copy-to-clipboard’ function. This feature allows players to copy a discount code to their clipboard with a single click on a button.

You can read more about the copy-to-clipboard feature here.

Share codes in a prize email

Another option for sharing discount codes with participants is to include the code in an email. If you are using unique prize codes, we recommend sending out the discount codes via email. This way, you avoid potential abuse of the codes. In the screenshot below, you can see an example of what a prize email including a discount code could look like:

Transfer prize codes to an ESP or CRM system

If you want to send out prize emails from your own email system you can transfer prize codes via an integration. In most ESP/CRM systems, you have the option to map up bulk prizes. This way, you can transfer prize information connected to a particular player.

You can choose to map all bulk prizes or map them up individually, depending on the information you want to transfer.

Using vouchers for in-store redemption

If you are using a Playable game to drive footfall and in-store activation, you can use vouchers to redeem discount codes. This feature is only available for bulk prizes.

A voucher is a redemption page that customers present in-store. This way, staff can visually inspect it for authenticity, adding an extra layer of security. The redemption of voucher codes can be tracked in the platform and allows you to get insights into the number of discount codes redeemed, helping you assess the effectiveness of your promotions or campaign.

If you want to know more about setting using voucher redemption in connection with your discount codes, we suggest that you check out this article that explains voucher redemption in more detail.
