Playable MCP: FAQ and troubleshooting

Written by Asta Dybdal

General questions

Which AI tools can I use?

Claude (claude.ai, the desktop and mobile apps, and Claude Code), ChatGPT and Gemini Enterprise. See Connect your AI tool to Playable.

Is my data safe?

The AI tool works with your own Playable login and permissions, can only change draft campaigns, and can't see participant data. Read Playable MCP security, access and control for the details.

Can the assistant publish my campaign?

No. Publishing, scheduling and pausing are always done by a person in Playable. When the assistant has finished a draft, open it in the editor, check it, finish the game setup, prizes and emails, and publish it as usual.

Can the assistant undo a change?

Not automatically. If you don't like a change, ask the assistant to change it back, or fix it in the editor. Deleted pages, rows, blocks and form fields can't be restored by the assistant, so ask it to show you what it plans to remove before it deletes anything.

How can I tell whether a campaign was edited with Playable MCP?

Open the campaign and go to Campaign settings → Campaign information. Campaigns created or edited with Playable MCP show "Created or edited with Playable MCP".

Why does the assistant sometimes get things wrong?

AI assistants can misunderstand a request or make mistakes. Give specific instructions, check the preview, and review every campaign in the editor before you publish it. For design work, installing the Playable skills helps a lot.

Connecting and signing in

The approval screen says "MCP access is not enabled"

Playable MCP hasn't been switched on for your workspace yet. Ask your workspace admin or your Playable account manager to enable it.

I signed in, but the assistant says it has no Playable tools, or it's missing some

Your role probably doesn't have MCP tool permissions, or only some of them. Ask your workspace admin to check the MCP tools tab on your role (how admins set this up).

If your admin has just changed your permissions, start a new chat. Many AI tools only load the list of available actions when a chat starts.

I can't find where to add a custom connector

  • Claude Team or Enterprise: an owner of your Claude organization has to add Playable first. Ask your Claude admin.

  • ChatGPT: custom connectors need developer mode. On a Business or Enterprise plan, your ChatGPT admin has to allow it.

After signing in, I end up in Playable instead of back in my AI tool

Go back to your AI tool and click Connect again. You're signed in to Playable now, so the approval screen should appear straight away.

The connection stopped working

This can happen when:

  • the connection hasn't been used for a month,

  • you or an admin revoked it,

  • your MCP permissions were changed, or

  • Playable MCP was switched off for your workspace.

Disconnect and connect again from your AI tool's connector settings. If it still doesn't work, ask your workspace admin to check your permissions.

I work in several workspaces. Which one does the assistant use?

The one belonging to the Playable user you signed in with when you connected. To switch, revoke the connection under OAuth sessions, connect again, and sign in as the user for the other workspace.

Working with campaigns

The assistant says a campaign is read-only

The campaign is live, or has been live at some point (this includes paused and expired campaigns). The assistant can't change these, to protect campaigns your participants have seen. Ask it to make a draft copy:

Copy Summer Wheel 2026 as a new draft called Summer Wheel 2026 – v2.

The assistant can't find my campaign

  • Use the exact campaign name, or part of it.

  • Check that you're connected with the right Playable user and workspace.

  • If your role is restricted to certain campaigns, the assistant has the same restrictions.

The assistant says a change worked, but I don't see it

  • Reload the campaign in the Playable editor.

  • Ask the assistant for the page's preview link and open it. Pages that come after the game in the flow can't be opened directly from a preview link. Play through the campaign preview to see them.

  • Ask the assistant to read the page back and confirm the setting is there. Occasionally the assistant uses a setting name Playable doesn't recognise, and the change doesn't stick. The Playable skills help prevent this.

The assistant stopped halfway through a set of changes

When one change in a series fails, the ones before it stay applied. Ask the assistant to check the current state of the campaign before it tries again, so nothing is done twice.

The assistant can't change the game, prizes or emails

These aren't available through Playable MCP yet. Set them up in the Playable editor. See What Playable MCP can and can't do.

The assistant can't change a page that reuses a global section

Pages that show a global section take their content from that section. Ask the assistant to edit the global section itself.

My brand font isn't available

The assistant can use your workspace fonts and Google Fonts. To use a brand font, first add it as a custom font under your account's appearance settings. Uploading the font file to the media library isn't enough on its own.

Images and media

An image upload failed

Check that:

  • The file isn't too big. Images can be at most 2560 × 2560 px. PNG and JPG files can be at most 700 KB, and WebP files at most 500 KB. Compress or resize larger images first.

  • The web address is public. The assistant fetches files from public HTTPS links. Links that need a login, or that redirect (such as many Google Drive and Dropbox share links), don't work. Use a direct link to the file.

  • The file type is supported. Common image types, fonts, PDFs and SVGs work. Videos can't be uploaded.

I shared an image in the chat, but the assistant can't upload it

To upload a file straight from the chat, your AI tool needs to be able to run code. In Claude, turn on Code execution and file creation under Settings → Capabilities. Otherwise, upload the image to a public web address first, or add it to the media library in Playable.

Can the assistant delete or rename files in the media library?

No. It can browse, view and upload files. Rename, move and delete files in Playable.

Still stuck?

Contact Playable support. It helps if you include which AI tool you use, the campaign name, what you asked the assistant, and the exact message it gave you.
