Calendar door states

Door states let you control how your calendar doors look and behave before their date, on their date, and after their date has passed. Use them to show players at a glance which doors they can open today, and to tell eager players when to come back.

Where to find door states

  1. Open your calendar and go to Game settings > Layout.

  2. Scroll to the Door states section, below the door text settings.

  3. Use the tabs to switch between the three states.

State

When it applies

Not yet active

Doors whose date has not arrived yet

Active

Doors that can be opened today

Expired

Doors whose date has passed

Door states are based on dates only. There is no separate state for doors a player has already opened.

Not yet active and Expired doors

The Not yet active and Expired tabs share the same settings, but you can style upcoming and past doors differently.

Appearance

Option

What it does

None

The door looks the same as usual

Color overlay

Places a color over the door. Set the color and its transparency in the color picker. The default is black at 40%.

Greyscale

Shows the door in black and white

On click

Option

What it does

Do nothing

Clicking the door has no visible effect

Show message

Shows a short message, for example to tell players when the door opens

You write the message text yourself. See the next sections for how to add the door's date and style the message.

Active doors

The Active tab holds the highlight settings that help players spot the doors they can open. These settings worked the same way before. They have only moved into the Door states section.

  1. Enable Highlight door(s).

  2. Choose a visual effect:

    • Spinner: a rotating animation around the door

    • Glow: a steady glow around the door

  3. Choose what to highlight:

    • All active doors: every door that can be opened right now

    • Door(s) activated today: only doors that became active today. This is useful with date ranges, where a door can stay open for several days.

  4. Set the highlight color.

Messages

Add the door's date with #day# and #month#

Use #day# and #month# in your message to show the door's date automatically. Both are shown as numbers, so you can combine them with your own text and separators.

You write

Players see (door opens December 5)

#day#/#month#

5/12

#day#. december

5. december

This door opens on December #day#. See you then!

This door opens on December 5. See you then!

If a door uses a date range, #day# and #month# show the first day of the range, which is the day the door opens.

Message style

The Message style settings appear when at least one state uses Show message. The style is shared by both the Not yet active and Expired messages.

Setting

What it does

Background color

The color behind the message text

Text color

The color of the message text

Hide message after

How long the message stays visible: 3, 5, or 10 seconds, or until the player clicks. The default is 3 seconds.

The message uses the same font type as your campaign's content font.

Test your door states

Door states are not shown in the editor preview. To see them, enable the test date and open your Demo URL. Pick a date in the middle of your calendar so you can see Not yet active, Active, and Expired doors at the same time.

Tips

  • Keep messages short. On mobile, a long message can cover several doors.

  • Make the next visit clear. A message like "Opens on December #day#" gives early clickers a reason to come back.

  • Choose a subtle overlay. A light overlay or greyscale on upcoming doors keeps your design visible while making today's door stand out.
